Well, beach huts are unique. They are exposed to the salty sea air, shifting sands, and more than their fair share of high winds and storms. This means they face different kinds of risks that standard policies do not always cover.
That's why getting a separate insurance policy for your seaside haven is a sensible move.
Having it means a more unique, meaning it protects you better against unusual challenges that differ from a normal house, ensuring you have a fun retreat. Why beach hut insurance is important
When you get beach hut insurance, it's not just about how much you paid for it. It's about what it would cost to rebuild it if the unexpected happens.
The price you bought it for might have included a premium for its location or the view. But insurance is all about the construction costs, materials, and labour.
So, when you're talking to insurers, you should think about the timber or whatever other materials make up your beachside retreat. This helps make sure that if you ever need to rebuild, your insurance has everything covered.
What your beach hut insurance should cover
- Buildings and contents: If the hut or anything inside it gets damaged, you are covered.
- Special possessions: If you have a special BBQ or surfboard, they can be covered too, but normally up to certain limits.
- Friends' possessions: If guests leave their possessions in the hut, and they get stolen, these can covered too, but again, normally up to a certain limit.
- Public Liability: If for example, someone trips over a chair outside your hut, and decides to sue, this can be covered.
- Accidental damage: Accidents happen, so accidental damage should be included in the policy.
How much does beach hut insurance cost?
Prices have increased by over 30 per cent as demand for beach huts has soared throughout the UK and further afield.
The name beach hut may not sound too impressive. However, some of these so-called beach huts can demand prices exceeding £26,000 and in some cases reaching £400,000. So it's vital to protect your investment.
The cost of beach hut insurance will largely depend on the price and location of the beach hut. The higher the price to buy the higher the insurance if the hut is in an area of high crime this will also be reflected in the final premium quoted.
Shopping around for the most suitable cover and comparing different companies is advisable. Remember, the cheapest nor the most expensive are necessarily the best.
